Ambracian Gulf Dolphins

38° 58.3′ N · 20° 58.2′ E · approximate

The enclosed, shallow Ambracian Gulf supports a resident population of bottlenose dolphins that regularly surface around yachts in its calm water. Sea turtles also visit.

Practical

Coordinate is approx: it is the gulf centroid from Wikipedia. Wikipedia: dolphins and sea turtles regularly appear. Both Preveza and Cleopatra marinas describe 'a stable population of bottlenose dolphins' in this NATURA 2000 protected area. Tethys Research Institute's Ionian Dolphin Project (since 1991) studies dolphins and monk seals in the eastern Ionian. Watch from the boat: slow down, keep a steady course, don't chase or box in a group, and never feed them. The gulf is fished for mullet, sole, eel and shrimp, so watch for nets and fish-farm cages.
