Anchorage· Ambracian Gulf· Greece — Ionian, Saronic & Argolic

Vonitsa Harbour (Ambracian Gulf)

38° 55.3′ N · 20° 53.1′ E

A small market town on the south shore of the Ambracian Gulf, under a large hilltop Venetian fortress, with a town quay lined with bars and tavernas. The gulf's flat water makes it a peaceful contrast to the Ionian, only about 10 km east of Aktion airport.

Practical

mySea lists about 35 berths stern-to in about 5 m, with water, fuel and an ATM. Noonsite (summer 2024): the old harbour is undergoing major expansion works, so berthing options are limited; check the current state before relying on the quay, or anchor off Koukoumitsa instead. mySea marks an anchorage just off the town in 5 m (38.92145N 20.88948E). Noonsite: the quayside has plenty of bars and tavernas but little else in town; the surrounding villages are worth a car or scooter trip. The Saturday fish market is mapped on the waterfront (OSM; open Saturdays until 2pm).

Best for

A quiet gulf town night and Saturday fish market

Season
