Soupia Islet Anchorage (Lizard Island)

37° 25.3′ N · 23° 29.7′ E

A lovely anchorage behind Soupia — 'Lizard Island', for its crouching shape seen from the east — with tamarisk shade on the beach, a few peacocks and remains of a 7th-century Byzantine port and fortifications.

Practical

Sailingissues anchorage marker. Ideally anchor in one of the two coves; anywhere north of the island will do. Solid holding in sand, though there is some litter on the seabed (the author notes a fridge). On the way from Poros, watch for hydrofoils emerging at speed from the Skylli strait. Recommended lunch stop between Poros and Hydra/Ermioni.

Best for

Lunch stop or a quiet night between Poros and Hydra
