Plataria Harbour

39° 27.2′ N · 20° 16.5′ E

A quiet mainland village harbour in the bay south of Igoumenitsa, popular with yachtsmen rather than tourists. A breakwater built in 2011 shelters it, a long sandy beach runs beside it, and there are good tavernas.

Practical

Stern-to on the breakwater in 1.5-4.5 m (mySea). The outer end of the breakwater was built so low that half of it is awash even in normal conditions, so give the end a wide berth. The harbour shelters yachts from the prevailing N-NW winds up to about Force 8-9, though waves break over the wall in very strong winds. Water and electricity for a small fee. Fuel by delivery: Shell (diesel and gas-bottle exchange, +30 26650 71214, mobile +30 6944 551 076) and Axon (George, diesel and petrol by mobile tanker, +30 26650 71126, +30 693 78 99 121), both via mySea. Noonsite: good restaurants and good food supplies. mySea reviewers recommend Kythos (since 1999) for Eleni's salad and anchovies (+30 26650 71797) and Olga for family cooking and value.

Best for

A safe, quiet mainland night with good tavernas
