Igoumenitsa Harbour (Ferry Port & Officials)

39° 29.9′ N · 20° 15.8′ E

Epirus's chief port and one of Greece's busiest passenger ports, with ferries to Corfu, Paxos and Italy. It is useful for crew changes and officials, but not a cruising stop.

Practical

Yachts can berth stern-to or alongside at the NE quay in up to 10 m, mud bottom with good holding; the east quay is reserved for ferries, which make a lot of wash (mySea). The small fishing harbour to the north (39.50552N 20.26227E) is usually crowded, under 2 m and uneven. Noonsite does NOT list Igoumenitsa as a yacht port of entry; its Ionian ports of entry are Corfu, Gouvia, Lefkas, Preveza, Argostoli and Zakynthos. Ask the Port Authority before relying on clearing in here. Wikipedia: the Egnatia Odos (A2) motorway ends here, with ferries to Ancona, Bari, Brindisi and Venice. Water, fuel and ATM are available; shops and tavernas are in town.

Best for

Crew changes by ferry and road; a refuge, not a destination
