Lakka Bay (Paxos)

39° 14.3′ N · 20° 7.9′ E

A near-circular, turquoise bay at the northern tip of Paxos, ringed by olive and cypress hills, with a pretty village at its head. This is the classic first or last night for yachts crossing between Corfu and the southern Ionian.

Practical

Most boats swing to anchor in 2-3.5 m over sand with weed patches; holding is good, or 5-7 m in the mouth (mySea). Hold back from the shallows near the shore. When crowded, take a line ashore on the west side, which Noonsite users rate as quite well protected; watch the depth there. Shelter is good from all directions except NE, and strong N winds send swell well into the bay (Noonsite July 2021; MarinaTips). One Noonsite user dragged in the soft sand, so set the anchor hard. Noonsite counted over 70 masts by early evening in June. Noonsite gives the bay entrance as 39°14.39'N 20°08.05'E. Most charter flotillas stop here, so arrive by early afternoon in season. Dinghy to the village quay; rubbish skips are a short walk from the landing.

Best for

A sheltered swing-anchorage in turquoise water with a village ashore

Season
