Cape Lakka Lighthouse & Planos Beach

39° 14.1′ N · 20° 7.7′ E

A square stone light tower on the cliffs of Cape Lakka, the NW tip of Paxos, a short walk from the village through olive groves. It looks across the channel to Corfu and down onto Planos, a wild pebble cove under the cliffs.

Practical

Paxos Map says the first Cape Lakka light was lit in 1825 and ran on olive oil. After a landslide in 1919 destroyed the first station, the present 10.7 m tower was built higher up, with a focal height of 64 m. It has been electric since 1979 and shows three white flashes every 24 seconds, range 20 nm. Sources disagree on when the present tower was built (Paxos Map 1916, Greek Wikipedia 1932, a travel blog 1832), so no date is given here. Planos beach lies behind the lighthouse (Paxos Map, 39.23521N 20.12642E). Go in the evening for the sunset.
