Keri Caves & Mizithres Rocks

37° 38.9′ N · 20° 50.4′ E

Along the cliffs of Cape Marathia, at Zakynthos's southern tip, a string of sea caves and two rock arches open straight into deep blue water. Some caves are large enough to take a boat inside; others you swim into. Further west, the twin white rock cones of the Mizithres rise beside a sliver of fine-sand beach.

Practical

Coordinate is 'Keri cave' (OpenStreetMap). The caves are only reachable by sea, by private boat or tripper boat from Limni Keri (zanteisland.com). The water under the cliffs is very deep, so treat this as a day stop under way or by dinghy rather than an anchorage. You can take a boat under the larger arch. One of the Mizithres rocks has a crack you can swim through, full of starfish. One cave leads about 10 m inland to an underground lake: leave someone in the dinghy. The Mizithres beach is at 37.6489, 20.8158 (OpenStreetMap). Go in calm weather, ideally in the morning before the afternoon NW breeze sets in. The caves are in the marine park: keep to 6 knots and watch for turtles and swimmers.
