Pigadia Harbour (Karpathos)

35° 30.6′ N · 27° 12.7′ E

Karpathos's capital and main ferry port, a working harbour under the town's waterfront tavernas on the island's south-east coast. It is the only place on Karpathos with fuel, water and a real town for provisioning, so almost every yacht calls here.

Practical

Not a marina: yachts moor stern-to on the mole in about 5 m (mySea). The new-port town pier has room for only 4-5 yachts, there are no lazy lines and the bottom is fouled with many chains, so buoy your anchor (MarinaTips, updated Sept 2026). Small yachts can sometimes tuck in behind the breakwater if local boats leave space; check depth under the mole first. The harbour mouth faces NE. Strong southerlies send swell in, and the meltemi brings heavy downbursts off the mountains that make the quay bumpy; mySea calls it 'rather uncomfortable'. A second town quay a little further along is more open to swell (MarinaTips). Fuel station, water and ATM on the waterfront (mySea; Barbaros adds basic mechanical help). Port Authority +30 22450 22227 (aegeanislands.gr). Not on the area's port-of-entry list: clear in at Rhodes or another Dodecanese port of entry first. No fees published; verify locally.

Best for

The island's fuel, water and provisioning stop, and the base for exploring southern Karpathos

Season

May–Oct; uncomfortable in strong S winds and in meltemi gusts
