Pigadia Bay Anchorage (Karpathos)

35° 30.6′ N · 27° 12.5′ E

An open anchorage off Pigadia's town beach, just west of the harbour, that keeps you out of the crowded, chain-fouled quay while staying a short dinghy ride from town.

Practical

About 5 m over sand, rated good holding (MarinaTips). Well protected from NE and E, but open from S, SW and W: leave if a southerly is forecast. Land the dinghy on the beach or in the harbour. Barbaros describes Pigadia's bottom as sand and mud with good holding but warns of strong N and NE gusts off the mountains in the meltemi; anchor with plenty of scope.

Best for

Overnight off town when the quay is full

Season

Jun–Sep in meltemi; untenable in S–SW winds
