Panagia Spiliani Festival (Nisyros, August 15)
36° 36.6′ N · 27° 7.8′ E
Nisyros's biggest celebration, on August 14-15 at the Panagia Spiliani monastery, draws people from across the Dodecanese for vespers, a procession of the icon and a free communal meal.
Practical
The festival runs August 6-15 at the Zosimopouleio theatre, with the main feast on August 14-15 (Nisyros Geopark). After vespers a fasting supper of chickpeas is served; after the liturgy the icon is carried in procession and a free meal is offered in the refectory (Greek Wikipedia). On August 15 thousands of pilgrims visit churches of the Virgin across Greece (Visit Greece).
