Mandraki Harbour (Nisyros)
36° 36.8′ N · 27° 8.4′ E
The ferry port and capital of Nisyros, a tangle of white cube houses under the cliff-top monastery of Panagia Spiliani. Lovely ashore, but a poor place to leave a yacht.
Practical
Exposed from NW through SE and untenable in stronger northerlies; ferry wash and tripper boats make it hard to leave a yacht unattended; easterlies can bring dangerous seas (Sailing Issues). Good holding but very few visitor berths; VHF 12 (Sailing Issues; ActiveCaptain). Moor on the northern or western part of the quay when space allows; the southern part shoals quickly over rock-fill; meltemi swell can force you out (mySea). A 2022 ActiveCaptain reviewer calls Pali 'the only reasonable place to leave your boat'. Water on the quay. Scooter and car hire by the port. Day-trip boats from Kardamena arrive around 9:30 am and leave around 3:30 pm in summer (Wikivoyage).
Best for
A daytime stop, or a calm-weather night under the monastery
Season
Settled weather only; untenable in strong N
