Pali Marina (Nisyros)

36° 37.2′ N · 27° 10.2′ E

The charming little harbour of Pali (Paloi) on Nisyros's north coast is the rare all-round shelter in this part of the Dodecanese and the place to leave the boat while you visit the volcano. Kos Marina boats can reach it before dusk.

Practical

The basin takes 40+ yachts, or 50+ rafted near the red light, and it fills in season. Depths in port and in the entrance are only 2-3 m: the south side of the entrance is silted, so keep close to the green light and do not rely on charted buoys or their colours; strong northerlies (meltemi) make the entrance awkward (Sailing Issues). ActiveCaptain reviews (2018, 2022) agree: about 2.5 m maximum in the entrance if you hug the breakwater, 3 m inside, fine for under 2 m draught. Stern-to with your own anchor on sand and mud (some stones), solid holding. Water and electricity on the commercial (town) side, where someone collects fees in the evening; the breakwater side was free in 2022 (ActiveCaptain). Earlier Noonsite reports: 2016 dredging gave 2.2 m in the entrance, with a charge from May 1 (7.56 EUR for a 14 m boat). All prices: verify locally. Fuel by tanker, arranged by Manos (car and bike hire at the base of the north mole), who also helps with mooring (Sailing Issues). Gusts from the NW occur inside (mySea). Ashore: minimarket, bakery, waterfront tavernas, scooter and car hire, a small beach.
