Liamis Dive Centre (Kos Town Harbour)

Kos Town's big-boat dive operation, running daily trips from the main harbour to the walls, caves and wreck of Pserimos aboard the 25 m dive vessel Apollon, skippered by Perikles Liamis. The Thor Star, a 73.5 m steel wreck in three sections off Pserimos, is the headline dive.

Coordinate is approximate: the centre gives its address only as 'Kos Harbor, P.O. 85300' and says it is 'located in the main harbour of Kos Town', so this is the Kos Old Harbour (Mandraki) position used elsewhere in this guide. Ask for the exact boarding point when you book. Daily programme: boat leaves at 9am and returns at 2:30pm, about one hour each way to Pserimos, 'wind force and direction permits it' (kosdiving.com). Sites the centre describes (the captain picks on the day by weather): The Potteries (very easy reef to 12 m with hundreds of ancient amphorae), Trigger Reef (reef to sand at about 14 m; triggerfish, nudibranchs, morays), Octopus Bay (gentle wall to about 16 m), The Island (drift dive on the Turkey-facing side, to 20 m, caves with morays), The Wall (drift along a cliff; outcrop at 18 m, then a drop to about 50 m; orange soft coral cave), The Gardens (max 12 m, sand paths between reef patches, occasional stingray), The Cave of the Black Rock (off NE Pserimos; plateau at 18 m, drop-off to 50 m, barracuda schools, cave at about 8 m), and the Thor Star wreck on Pserimos's SE side (bow 5 m, midships 5-12 m, stern to 24 m; 'suitable for experienced wreck divers'). Apollon has a dive platform, two ladders, toilets and showers, a galley and two Bauer compressors on board; licensed for 97 passengers. Snorkellers can ride along.
