Kos Hydrofoil Pier (Kos Town)

36° 53.7′ N · 27° 17.6′ E

A free pier between the old harbour and Kos Marina, right below the Tree of Hippocrates and the Sanctuary of Aphrodite: the fallback berth when both the old harbour and the marina are full, and the cheapest way to sleep in Kos town.

Practical

Free of charge, so there is no water and no electricity. The outer two-thirds of the pier have more than 2 m; most of it is 4 m or deeper. Up to about 25 knots of NW is doable, but it is not suitable in the meltemi or in NE to E winds; ferries come and go and send a wash; a police building is ashore and the spot is otherwise very quiet (Sailing Issues). mySea adds that the pier is exposed to swell, excursion boats moor here, the space on the eastern side must be kept free between 11 am and 3 pm, and boats drawing up to 1.7 m can berth behind the bend; alongside or stern-to. Fuel, water and showers: use the Kos Marina fuel dock and facilities (see separate entries). Coordinate is mySea's 'Jetty' point.

Best for

Free berth in town when everywhere else is full

Season

Apr–Oct; not in meltemi or NE–E winds
