Practical
Approximate position just above the Monastiri cove anchorage (39.32476, 24.09303). Closed 2pm–6pm (a sign at Agios Petros says 3pm–6pm); dress decently and bring cash for souvenirs. The monk offers loukoumi and tsipouro; the monastery makes its own wine. Walk on up to the church of Athanasius the Athonite for views of Gioura, Grammiza, Pappous and Piperi (Sailing Issues). Overnight stays require agreement with the monks (official rules). The Panagia church on Pappous islet off the north-east coast may also be visited (zone A7).
