Agios Petros Bay (Kyra Panagia)
39° 19.4′ N · 24° 3.4′ E
The big bay on Kyra Panagia's south-west side, behind Kyra islet — the southernmost overnight anchorage of the park core, holding 25–40 boats in August, with a submerged Neolithic settlement in its eastern part.
Practical
Zone A: online ticket required; overnight allowed. Anchor in 4–7 m on sand and rock inside the north corner behind Kyra islet, with lines ashore; gusts are N–NE, so lie facing NE. Only rare SW winds get in. Trip line advised around Kyra islet; rubbish on the bottom. The entrance is partly closed by Pelerissa (Phangrou) islet, which has a Classical wreck with wine amphorae. Alternatives: west cove (39.32275, 24.05165) for NW–W winds, little swinging room, more rock; Kokkina cove (east) for easterlies, very shallow 3–4 m, suspect holding, about a 50-minute hike to the monastery. Flotillas of 10+ from Volos are common. Disembarking is officially forbidden except during mooring; the west coast is off limits (Sailing Issues, official rules). Night gusts of 15 knots from the north over the NW saddle (Sailing Issues logbook).
Best for
Overnight in the park core with room for many boats
Season
May–Oct; avoid strong SW
