Kolymbia Bay (Rhodes)
36° 15.0′ N · 28° 10.2′ E
A tight bay with a mini-port that gives practically all-round shelter, behind a 1938 Italian planned village.
Practical
Sailing Issues: avoid the shallow rocky ledges either side of the entrance. Room for only a handful of yachts to swing, over sand and weed with some rocks and old mooring lines on the seabed, so use a trip line. You can sometimes go stern-to the outer side of the mole, though most of it is reserved for daysail caïques. The inner basin is too shallow for yachts. Except in southerlies you can take a line to the rocks under the cliff. Zeus supermarket is 850 m inland. Taverna Grigoris is next to the Rodos Nature Museum. Summer drawbacks: beach hotels, a 'pirate ship' and more than 20 speedboats towing inflatables. Seven Springs (Epta Pigis), a bird sanctuary 4 km west along the Eucalyptus road, is worth the walk.
