Anchorage· Rhodes· Greece — Dodecanese, Sporades & North Aegean
Anthony Quinn Bay (Ladiko)
36° 19.4′ N · 28° 12.6′ E
Originally Vagies Bay: a rocky, pine-fringed inlet of glassy turquoise water where scenes of The Guns of Navarone (1961) were shot. Arguably the prettiest anchorage on Rhodes' east coast once the tripper boats leave.
Practical
Sailing Issues: the seabed gets rockier towards the beach. Anchor in 8–10 m with plenty of chain over sand, in the sandy area north of the pier; good holding. Grecosailor reports a firm hold at 10 m with 40 m of chain and a line to the rocky north shore. In office hours in high season you are packed in like sardines, but the caïques leave by 5 pm and it is bearable from 4 pm. Sudden night-time gusts under 20 kn from the south have been experienced. The area north of Cape Ladiko is not fully charted. Ashore: Kounna Resto Bar on the beach and mojitos by the small pier to the east (Sailing Issues). Waterhoppers dives the Ladiko wall nearby.
