Kalithea Springs
36° 22.8′ N · 28° 14.4′ E
Italian-era thermal spa of domes, colonnades and mosaics, built from 1928 above the ancient healing springs. Below it, rocky coves of emerald water make one of the best snorkels near Rhodes town.
Practical
Anchoring: Grecosailor reports good holding in 10 m of sand with 40 m of chain off Kallithea beach (sand and rocks). The springs complex is ashore (OSM 36.3783, 28.2387); check hours and admission locally. Greeka: the water deepens quickly, so swim with care. Waterhoppers moors its dive and snorkel platform just outside the main bay and runs trips from Mandraki daily except Sunday from June to mid-September (fewer days in May and from mid-September to end of October), leaving 9 am and returning about 4:30 pm. Expect bream, damselfish, octopus, flounder and pipefish. Waterhoppers notes there is no direct access to the beach from its platform.
Best for
Snorkelling and a swim close to town
Season
May–October; exposed in easterlies
