Kardamena Harbour (Kos)

36° 46.9′ N · 27° 8.7′ E

A breakwater harbour mid-way along Kos's south coast with a great beach and every shop, but only about seven visitor berths and a full-on party-resort waterfront.

Practical

VHF 12 (Harbour Office). Approach from the south and round the red harbour light tightly: silt lies near the entrance and around the green light, which the Greek Waters Pilot chartlet does not show (Sailing Issues). Go stern-to the northern quay (the basin is about 120 m wide, so lay plenty of chain; mind the tourist-boat buoys and lines), or raft alongside the NE side of the concrete pontoon. Water and berths are often free; electricity pillars need a card bought from Kos Marina (update September 2023). Last resort: alongside the breakwater in the SE corner, not suitable in the meltemi. Good holding in sand with some weed. Beware underwater concrete blocks reducing depth and check you are not taking a local's berth; depths 2-3 m; mouth faces S and is protected from the meltemi, but expect downbursts (mySea). Day boats to Nisyros leave from here in season (Wikipedia; Wikivoyage). The Alasarna archaeological site is just south, and Antimachia Castle is a 40-minute hike uphill.
