Junkers Ju 52 aircraft wreck (Leros)
37° 11.4′ N · 26° 51.0′ E
A three-engined German Junkers Ju 52 transport, shot down during the November 1943 invasion, lying upside down with paratroopers' helmets and weapons still scattered around it.
Practical
Diving on Greek wrecks is restricted: these are among the 91 modern wrecks the Culture Ministry listed in 2021 for organized, guided dives, so go with the local dive centre (Hydrovius, Krithoni) rather than independently from your yacht, and take nothing. Deep/technical: Hydrovius gives 43–49 m on its site page and 55 m on its map pin; the ministry list says 51 m. Hydrovius tells the story of gunner Andreas Hutter, who survived the crash. A Ju 52 shot down over Leros on 13 November 1943 was salvaged in 2003 and is in the Hellenic Air Force Museum (Wikipedia), so this is a different aircraft. Coordinate is the Hydrovius dive-map pin, off Leros' north coast.
Best for
Technical divers; a WWII aircraft frozen in time
