Chios Seafront Ouzeries

38° 22.2′ N · 26° 8.4′ E · approximate

An evening along the Chios waterfront and in the lanes behind it is all about mezedes and ouzo or souma — fried anchovies, grilled sardines, Chios sausages and mastic-flavoured everything.

Practical

Greektravel lists To Tsikoudo on the waterfront (seafood and local-product mezedes), Ouzeri Akropol and Agora across from the main square near the castle gate, Iakovos inside the castle quarter (mezedes, ouzo and souma, sometimes live music), To Kechrimpari mezedopoulio in an old stone building a few blocks above the market, Chthioskala fish taverna at the small fishing harbour north of the main port near the Ottoman baths, and Hotzas — a garden family taverna about a 20-minute walk from the port, called the oldest and most famous on the island (CruisersWiki; closed Sun and Mon, +30 22710 42787). Note: Tsivaeri and Palio Petrino are marked closed (greektravel). Lonely Planet-era reviews of Tzivaeri are out of date. Position approximate: waterfront centre.
