Avlonia Cove Snorkel (south Chios)

38° 9.8′ N · 25° 59.6′ E

A remote sand-and-seagrass cove just west of Cape Mastichon, reached by sea round the island's southern tip, with calm, clear, cold water and Venetiko's falcon islet in view.

Practical

Pin is the Grecosailor anchoring position for Pirgousiki Avlonia (38°09'50.2"N 25°59'37.3"E): 6 m on sand and seagrass, good holding, protected from the north but with a daily and nightly swell; water clear but cold (Grecosailor). Kamari Blue Ride runs boat trips here past the island's southernmost point and says you can snorkel in its calm waters, with Venetiko islet visible offshore. Snorkel the rocky edges of the cove; seagrass meadows in the middle (do not anchor on the seagrass where sand is available). No facilities ashore.

Best for

Quiet off-the-boat snorkel at the south tip

Season

Jun–Sep; settled weather (swell from S)
