Amoopi (Karpathos)

35° 28.7′ N · 27° 12.0′ E

A string of small sandy coves about 7 km south-west of Pigadia, with clear water, tavernas and swimming-pool-calm conditions in a north-westerly. It is the closest real swimming anchorage to the main port.

Practical

Sand bottom, clear water (MarinaTips). Protected from N through W and from S and SW; open to E and SE, so leave if the wind goes east. Three beaches with a few tavernas and minimarkets ashore. Greeka describes Mikri (Little) Amoopi as sandy and organised, Megali Amoopi with water sports, and pebbly Votsalakia between them. Dinghy to the beach.

Best for

Lunch stop or calm-night anchorage within 4 nm of Pigadia
