Achata Arch & Pigadia Bay Dive Sites (Karpathos)

35° 33.4′ N · 27° 12.4′ E · approximate

The named boat-dive sites on Karpathos's east coast, including the Achata Arch, the Labyrinth, Camel Reef, the Vronti Caves and the wreck of the MS Dias. There is a chance of meeting a Mediterranean monk seal.

Practical

Approximate position: offshore of Achata beach (OSM 35.5572, 27.2037), moved east into the water; the dive centre does not publish site coordinates. Greeka names the Labirynth, Achata Arch, Camel Reef, Vronti Caves and MS Dias wreck, and notes that some are for advanced divers only. Dive only with Karpathos Diving Center (Pigadia, PADI), because diving in Greece is tightly permitted and independent scuba on sites of archaeological interest is restricted. A 2009 diver's review on taucher.net says the centre offered only shore dives in 2007–08 because of the strict permitting, and a 2013 review describes shore dives reached by car or minivan. Do not anchor on the sites.
