Zoodochos Pigi Monastery (Anafi)

36° 21.5′ N · 25° 49.8′ E

The monastery at the foot of Kalamos, above Monastiri bay. In legend Apollo revealed Anafi to the storm-tossed Argonauts as a refuge, and the island's Apollo cult centred on this headland.

Practical

Coordinates from OSM. It is the trailhead for the Kalamiotissa climb, a short walk up from the Monastiri anchorage. Dress modestly for church visits. Anafi's biggest feast is here and at Kalamiotissa on September 8. Wikipedia records ruins of a temple to Apollo Aegletes 'at the monastery of Panagia Kalamiotissa'; Greeka links the feast to both monasteries.
