West-Coast Lee Shore (Plaka–Mikri Vigla)
37° 2.1′ N · 25° 21.3′ E · approximate
The 8 km of sand from Plaka to Mikri Vigla looks inviting on the chart, but it is open coast with no harbour. In the meltemi the wind blows side- to side-onshore and is full of kiters and windsurfers.
Practical
There is no listed anchorage between Agia Anna and Kastraki in the pilot sources consulted (sailingissues covers Agia Anna, then Alyko). Flisvos Kite Centre describes the Mikri Vigla wind as side-side-onshore from the north, and Greeka calls the north beach the windy side. Sailingissues says even Agia Anna is not suitable in meltemi conditions. In settled weather or light easterlies you can anchor off Plaka or Mikri Vigla on sand on your own judgement, but leave before the afternoon breeze builds and keep well clear of kite and windsurf zones. In a meltemi go to Alyko, Agiassos or Kalantos instead. The islets Aspronisi and Laros lie off Plaka (OSM). Position approx: a point offshore of Plaka Beach in the water, derived from the OSM coastline.
