Mikri Vigla Kitesurf (Naxos)

37° 1.7′ N · 25° 22.2′ E

Naxos's famous kite and windsurf beach: a sandy bay just downwind of a rocky headland, where the summer meltemi blows side-side-onshore from the north. Beginners who drift downwind simply wash up on the sand.

Practical

Flisvos Kite Centre (Orkos Beach, Mikri Vigla) runs IKO courses with groups of no more than 2, RRD rental gear, a rescue boat and baywatch. Tel +30 2285 075490, mobile/WhatsApp +30 694 5457407. It has a live wind station and webcam. Season May-October. Greeka: the north beach is the kite spot. The south side (Sahara/Limanakia) is sheltered from the meltemi and suits families. Glyfada is a quieter kite spot, Amitis is for wave riders, and Agiassos works only in southerlies. Kites cannot be launched at Orkos beach itself. From the water this is an exposed lee shore in the meltemi and not an anchorage. Visit by land from Chora (about 12 km).
