Temple of Demeter (Sangri)
37° 1.7′ N · 25° 25.9′ E
An all-marble temple to Demeter built around 530-520 BC under the tyrant Lygdamis on the fertile Sangri plateau. It is one of the earliest Ionic temples and a forerunner of the Parthenon, partly re-erected beside a small site museum.
Practical
About 10-12 km from Chora, near Ano Sangri. There is an archaeological collection (Gyroula) on site (OSM). Greeka notes worship here back to the Mycenaean era. Opening hours and tickets were not verified, so check locally; Greek sites often close early in the afternoon. Combine with Halki and the Tragea villages.
