Koundouros Bay Anchorage (Kea)

37° 34.8′ N · 24° 16.7′ E

A set of small coves on Kea's south-west corner lined with holiday villas and a beach taverna, popular with Athenian motor yachts. It gives good meltemi shelter and makes a natural last night before the run back to Lavrio.

Practical

Anchor in 4-7 m on sand and weed. The east and north coves are preferred (sailingissues); moor on the NE side where the holding is good (aegeanislands). Good shelter in NW through ESE winds, but expect fierce NE gusts off the hills in a meltemi. Open to southerlies. Hazards: rocky slabs near the shore; a reef about 300 m off, just below the surface; shoals off Cape Makryopounta. Approach with care and use a chart plotter. Taverna Porto Koundouros is on the beach. A secondary Kea Divers base is at Koundouraki beach. One sailor reports it busy on Thursdays with charter boats staging for Lavrio. The coordinate is the sailingissues/OpenSeaMap marker.
