Gramvousa Islet Beach (Amorgos)

36° 48.1′ N · 25° 44.8′ E

A perfect sandy beach under a low, steep ridge on uninhabited Gramvousa islet, off Amorgos's south-west tip, with a white chapel above the bay.

Practical

Grecosailor skipper pin: soft sand with grass patches, protected from swell but with frequent wind shifts. Watch for fishing lines and baskets marked by small fenders. Sailingissues: the south bay has better all-round shelter and holding in sand and weed and is mildly meltemi-proof; anchor in 3-5 m south-west of the white church. The east bay is superbly private but fair-weather only (open N-SE). In peak season day-trippers are ferried over from Kalotaritissa, so if it is crowded try the cove directly east of the church. Grecosailor also reports a northern anchorage (36.8089N 25.7483E) with great protection, ideal stern-to, and easy snorkelling. GWP, Eagleray and Garmin charts are correct here. amorgos.gr: sandy, reached by transfer boat.
