Black Beach Anchorage (Akrotiri)

36° 21.3′ N · 25° 22.5′ E

An anchorage off the dark-sand coves near Mesa Pigadia at the western end of the Akrotiri peninsula, close to the lighthouse.

Practical

Grecosailor: sand and rock, good shelter from northerly winds; catamaran traffic ends in the evening. Sailingissues puts its black-beach marker a little west (36.3528 N 25.3708 E) and calls it a light-weather stop. Mesa Pigadia beach ashore has a taverna (Greeka lists it as partly organised). Dangerous rocks and reefs fringe the headland (OpenSeaMap shows several around 36.351 N 25.379 E), so approach from the south in good light.

Best for

Evening swim and quiet night when the meltemi blows

Season

Calm or northerly weather only
