Alyko Anchorage (Naxos)
36° 58.6′ N · 25° 23.4′ E
The sailingissues author's favourite of the south-west anchorages, under the cedar-covered Alyko peninsula. The beaches here include 'Hawaii', the graffiti-covered shell of an unfinished hotel, and a food truck ashore.
Practical
Solid holding in sand. mySea shows a shallow sand patch of 1-2 m close in with good holding (36.97697, 25.39029), so anchor further out according to draft. mySea also marks underwater rocks just to the west (36.97671, 25.38755), and sailingissues warns of offshore islets and reefs along this coast. It sits under Cape Kouroupas, which gives a lee from the north. Faros tou Alykou taverna (since 1992) is at 36.98621, 25.39297, tel +30 22850 75545 (Greeka). The Campos Market supermarket is about 1 km inland at Pyrgaki (OSM). Blue Fin Divers keeps its RIB at Alyko for the Black Rock (30 m wall) and Trapezaki (9-22 m, nudibranchs) reef dives.
Best for
Meltemi lee with sand, cedars and the 'Hawaii' beach
