16° 38.6′ S · 151° 31.2′ W

Taha'a's only dive centre, based in Hurepiti Bay opposite the west-coast pass. It runs small-group dives on the outer reefs of Taha'a and Raiatea, often in the lee of the east trades.

Practical

Position from the Tahiti Tourisme listing's map link (Baie de Hurepiti). Phone +689 87 24 80 69 or 40 65 78 37; email tahaadivingcenter@gmail.com; WhatsApp from tahaa-diving.com. The centre says it sits 'opposite the Tiva pass' (the west-coast pass, Paipai on charts) for quick access to the west outer reef, which is often sheltered from the east wind. Groups are capped at 5 divers (8 on request), with 10 Scubapro kits and a 21 ft aluminium boat carrying oxygen, VHF, sounder and GPS. Boats usually leave between 8am and 9am for a two-tank dive, and between 1pm and 2pm for try-dives, training and refresher dives. Courses: CMAS/FFESSM/ANMP Level 1 and PE40, and PADI Open Water referral and completion. Boat pick-up from your accommodation or an agreed meeting point is offered; ask whether they will collect from a yacht at a nearby ZMR (pick-ups may cost extra). Posted prices (undated, so verify locally): double dive 15,000 XPF, single dive 8,000 XPF, try-dive 9,000 XPF, refresher 10,000 XPF, private boat (1–5 divers) 90,000 XPF, Level 1 course 45,000 XPF, snorkel trip 6,000 XPF (minimum 4). Tahiti Tourisme lists Paipai Pass (drop-off at 25–30 m, small caverns with whitetip reef sharks) and the outer north-reef sites Ruutai, Tau Tau and Taputapu (visibility up to 40 m; jacks, Napoleon wrasse, snappers, barracuda, blacktip and whitetip reef sharks). Scuba is banned inside any ZMR. Raiatea centres (Hemisphère Sub at Apooiti, Te Mara Nui at Uturoa) also dive Taha'a.
