16° 37.8′ S · 151° 30.2′ W · approximate
Taha'a's traditional stone fishing. A line of canoes beats the water with stones on ropes to drive fish toward the shore, where people wait to catch them by hand. Today it is mainly performed during the October festival, with canoes decked in tiare garlands.
Practical
Position is the island centre (OSM relation); the venue changes, so ask at the town hall in Patio or your pension for the date and place. Keep the boat well clear of the canoe line and the shallows during the event.
