Hike· Taha'a· French Polynesia — Society Islands
Haamene–Patio Cross-Island Hike (below Mount Ohiri)
16° 38.1′ S · 151° 29.5′ W · approximate
An old 4WD track that climbs from Haamene over the Vaiautea pass to Patio on the north coast, crossing the green heart of the island below Mount Ohiri (590 m), Taha'a's highest point.
Practical
Position approximate: the Haamene village node in OSM (trailhead). About 3 hours one way according to the 2025 brief. Arrange a lift or taxi back, or moor at Haamene and walk out and back. Carry water and start early, before the midday heat. The 2025 brief and other sources checked do not describe a marked trail to the summit of Mount Ohiri; ask locally before trying it. A shorter alternative on the east side is the 1.5-hour climb from Raai Bay (Fare Hau Camp), with views over Haamene and Faaaha bays.
