ZMR de Haamene (Taha'a)

16° 38.2′ S · 151° 29.4′ W

Two mooring buoys at the very head of Haamene Bay, a 2-mile fjord-like inlet cutting into the middle of Taha'a. It is the most sheltered spot on the island and steps from Haamene village.

Practical

Quota: 2 boats, 24 h max (decree ZM-HA-1 to HA-4; position is their centroid). The 2025 brief says 2 mooring buoys give access to the village; the muddy bottom is well sheltered from the prevailing winds. Ashore: doctors and pharmacy, groceries, post office, bank and ATM, library, car and e-bike hire, restaurants. The pier in front of Taha'a Maitai is shared with the Raiatea–Taha'a ferry, so don't block it. Older guides give 30–50 ft (9–15 m) in front of the village. Noonsite notes the library behind the ice house lends and swaps books with cruisers. The old 4WD track over the island to Patio starts here, about 3 hours on foot. Standard ZMR rules (arrêté 911 CM, 26 June 2025): boats under 20 m only; anchor inside the charted polygon; overnight (4pm–9am) must be pre-booked on escales.gov.pf, by email to escales.dpam@administration.gov.pf or by phoning DPAM on 40 54 45 78 (24/7). Day use 9am–4pm is free within the quota. Inside the zone: 5-knot limit, no sailing, anchor light from sunset to sunrise, AIS left on if fitted, no scuba, jet skis or windsurfers, swimming only close to your own boat, no underwater or hull lights, no grey/black-water discharge. The booking service was free during the 2025 pilot; the brief says fees start in 2026, so verify locally. DPAM planned to lay permanent moorings in 2026; once a zone has moorings, anchoring there is banned and you must use a buoy.
