Tahauku Outer Anchorage (outside the breakwater)

9° 48.5′ S · 139° 2.0′ W

The overflow zone just outside the Tahauku breakwater: rolly and exposed, but a legal place to drop the hook on arrival while you wait for room inside.

Practical

Coordinate is the centre of ZMR 'Tahauku 2' from the corner points in Arrêté 384 CM (2026): 09°48.39'S 139°01.96'W, 09°48.42'S 139°01.92'W, 09°48.56'S 139°01.94'W, 09°48.50'S 139°02.01'W. Quota: 7 boats under 20 m for up to 20 days (5 days in busy periods) plus 2 boats for 30 days renewable. The 2026 brief gives 10-12 m, calls the zone exposed to swell and suitable for a short stopover, and warns not to damage the internet cable that runs through it until moorings are installed. Noonsite's entrance position is 09°48.47'S 139°02.0'W. Cruisers find it rolly in anything but light winds with little south in the swell; local outrigger canoes and small craft speed through. Ships of 90-250 m use a separate zone (HO-1-A, 300 m swing radius centred 09°48.74'S 139°02.15'W). Same Escales booking and ZMR rules as the inner zone.
