Marine Maintenance Marquesas Haul-Out (Tahauku)

9° 48.4′ S · 139° 1.8′ W · approximate

Marquises Maintenance Services (MMS) is the only haul-out in the southern Marquesas: a trailer yard in an old quarry beside Tahauku harbour that stores boats out of the cyclone belt and does mechanics, welding, rigging and sail repair.

Practical

Approximate position: the yard behind the Tahauku harbour's east shore, with its launching ramp at the root of the breakwater (cruiser descriptions plus the 2026 brief map). 2026 brief: lifts boats up to 16 m and 18 tonnes; outboard and inboard engines, generators, rigging, aluminium and stainless welding, electrics, sailmaking, a chandlery store and gas-cylinder refills. Careening area with showers and toilets. Contact direction@maintenancemarquises.com, WhatsApp +689 87 20 99 49. The website says it is the only boatyard in French Polynesia outside the cyclone zone, offers storage (gardiennage), and has a tariff PDF and an affiliated chandlery (Accastillage Diffusion). Monohulls and multihulls are hauled with a hydraulic trailer, only at high water. Book early, because spaces fill for the November-April storage season. The yard is sheltered and breezeless, with lots of insects: seal openings, grease the stands and lines, and set roach traps. It is locked at night with a combination padlock. Gas was 500 XPF/kg in 2019 (verify locally). A September 2024 report praised their welder for building a replacement rudder; specialist stainless had to be ordered from the USA.
