Rapa Iti Mairie and Medical Center
27° 37.1′ S · 144° 20.0′ W · approximate
Haurei (about 400 people) on the south shore of the bay holds Rapa's town hall, medical centre, post office and primary school, and the mairie is where you pay for fuel.
Practical
Approximate position: Ahurei village (OSM); the buildings are not individually mapped. Two magasins in Haurei sell very basic supplies; there is no vegetable market, but fruit is often given from private gardens if you ask nicely (bring gifts in return). Rapa is self-governing in many matters: alongside the mayor, the traditional council (Tohitu) decides land and culture questions; land is held communally (fr.wikipedia calls it a council of 12, Pitufa a council of 7). Population 451 (2022). No airport: the supply ship is the only link.
