Ha'urei Football Field Trailhead (Rapa Iti)
27° 37.1′ S · 144° 20.2′ W
The starting point for Rapa's two best-kept fort hikes: the mountain road beside Ha'urei's football field climbs to a fork, left to Tevaitau and right to Morongo Uta.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM football pitch at Ha'urei, about 500 m west of the main dock. Route (Pitufa/compendium, Nov 2018): follow the mountain road from near the field; where it ends a path goes left to Tevaitahu (Tevaitau) and right to Morongo Uta. Paths to three of the forts are well maintained. Allow half a day for both forts. Wear shoes and take a layer: cold fronts bring wind and heavy rain, and the paths get slippery. Do not move stones at the pa sites.
