Poumaka Spire Guided Hike (from Hakahetau)
9° 22.6′ S · 140° 5.3′ W · approximate
A guided climb from Hakahetau valley towards the foot of Poumaka, the two-headed spire. It has steep, slippery stretches and views over the whole west coast.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: on the Hakahetau valley road near Manfred's chocolate (OpenStreetMap), on the route towards Poumaka. Tahiti Tourisme gives about 4 hours ('Escape in Ua Pou') and about 5 hours for the whole trail elsewhere, not suitable for children. Hire a local guide, who will also tell the island's legends; ask at the Hakahau mairie or your pension. Start early, before the clouds build.
