Hakahau Spires Banana-Plantation Track
9° 22.2′ S · 140° 3.6′ W · approximate
A road and track that climbs S/SW from the west end of Hakahau much further than the maps show, ending in a banana plantation with huge views back over the bay towards the pinnacles.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: a midpoint on the track, estimated from Moon Rebel's description. Moon Rebel (2018): allow 2 hours up and 1 back. They estimated the end was about 1 km short of the pinnacles and 200-300 m below them. No trail continues to the spires; a stream gorge 200 m back from the overlook looked like a possible bush-whack, but that is unverified. None of the locals they asked knew a path to the pinnacles. Easier walks with views: the road south past the church through Hitika, or the road west towards the airport along the ridge.
Best for
A half-day climb towards the spires
