Hakahau Fuel (Drums at the Magasins)
9° 21.8′ S · 140° 3.1′ W · approximate
Ua Pou has no fuel dock. Diesel and gasoline come in drums or by the litre from the main magasins, and are carried to the boat in jerry cans.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: Magasins Marielle and Juliette by the church. Sugar Shack (2019): small quantities of diesel, no gasoline. Sierra Wind (May 2022): diesel in drums, gasoline by the litre, nothing on Sundays. The Soggy Paws fuel table lists 'Hakahau Bay Magasins' as Ua Pou's fuel source. Supplies depend on the supply ship; for large quantities refuel at Taiohae (Nuku Hiva). Noonsite (June 2024): small quantities of fuel at several magasins; diesel may be hard to come by depending on when the supply ship has visited. Jerry cans go back by dinghy from the quay; Noonsite says yachts may come alongside the quay briefly when no supply ship is due, which makes carrying heavy cans easier (see the Hakahau Quay entry). Magasin Juliette hours (2019, verify locally): Monday to Friday 7am-12pm and 2-5pm; Saturday 7am-12pm and 2:30-5pm. Marielle (2019, verify locally): Monday to Saturday 5am-7pm, short Sunday openings.
