Peva Pass Dive (Rurutu)
22° 28.2′ S · 151° 19.2′ W · approximate
Tahiti Tourisme calls Peva Pass on Rurutu's east coast 'a dive that's unique in French Polynesia': a long corridor about 12 m deep through the reef, with drop-offs and cavities, coral, reef fish and whitetip sharks in very clear water.
Practical
Approximate position: about 250 m off the OSM locality of Peva on the east coast (-22.4693, -151.3255); the exact corridor is not published. OSM maps two reef openings close by, Tauenu (about 600 m north) and Taero (about 400 m south), so ask locally which one the dive uses. Tahiti Tourisme says Rurutu has no dive centre: divers must bring their own equipment, and there is no compressor listed in the cruising sources, so this is a dive for boats with their own tanks and fills. The east coast is the weather side in the SE trade: dive only on calm, low-swell days, from the dinghy with someone aboard, never alone. Rurutu has only a narrow fringing reef, so the outer slope is open ocean. In whale season (Jul to Nov) the whale-approach rules apply (see 'Rurutu Whale-Approach Rules').
