Gendarmerie Moerai (Port of Entry, Rurutu)
22° 27.3′ S · 151° 20.1′ W
Rurutu is one of the three Austral ports of entry, and the gendarmes at the south end of Moerai expect every yacht to report in, even boats already cleared into French Polynesia.
Practical
Building at the southern end of Moerai on the coast road (RT 311). Bring passports, boat papers and your 'Déclaration unique plaisance' dossier number (demarches-simplifiees.fr). Pitufa (2018) found the gendarmes friendly and helpful; once, they even gave the crew a ride. Since Jan 2024 the gendarmerie said it knew of no rule against swimming with whales from your own boat, but see the whale-approach entry.
