Mt Pito Hike (Rurutu)

22° 28.0′ S · 151° 20.5′ W

An easy ridge walk south from the Moerai-Avera pass over Pito, Erai and Taurama, with gentler hills and sea views on both coasts.

Practical

Coordinate is the Pito summit (OSM 'Pito de Rurutu'). The dirt road toward Pito starts on the far side of the same pass as the Manureva hike. Pitufa walked the ridge to Pito, Erai (22.4871 S) and Taurama (22.4986 S); after Taurama a smaller dirt road drops to Auti, where you can hitch back. Moana (2023) saw a newly built 'pito' (centre of the island) monument, similar to a marae.
