Manihi Pass Snorkel

14° 27.3′ S · 146° 3.5′ W · approximate

A clear-water drift through Tairapa Pass on the incoming tide over healthy coral, with eels, lionfish, flounder, octopus and sharks.

Practical

Placed at Slipaway's mid-pass waypoint (approximate for the snorkel). Drift on the flood only. CAUTION: about three quarters of the way through are old fish pens of rusty rebar and chicken wire, sometimes barely visible; someone was entangled in 2011. Scout them on the way out and keep everyone watching. Fishing is regulated in the pass (ZPR).
