Fernando's Bakery (Manihi)

14° 27.5′ S · 146° 3.5′ W · approximate

Fernando, Manihi's legendary 'go-to guy', and his wife ran the waterfront bakery with a little café, and offered cruisers baguette delivery, laundry, trash pickup, pilotage, pearl-farm tours and picnics.

Practical

Positioned at the waterfront building OpenStreetMap tags 'Snack - Boulangerie' (approximate: that it is Fernando's bakery-café is inferred from the cruiser description, not confirmed). These reports date from 2010-2015 (Soggy Paws, Slipaway, OCC): verify locally whether Fernando's services still operate. The 2024 atoll sheet confirms 1 bakery in the village. Slipaway (2011) paid 2,000 XPF per boat for Fernando to lead them through the pass and to the anchorage (price list then 2,500 XPF each leg); hail 'Fernando' on VHF 16 (he worked at the airport, so not available when a plane was due). Fuel: he once delivered a 55-gal drum of diesel to a yacht (2010); the 2024 atoll sheet lists a mobile isotank fuel station on Motu Tera Pae awaiting opening. Order bread the day before.
